Powder Blue Isopods Porcellionides pruinosus are one of the most popular, hardy, and prolific species in the hobby, famous for their stunning powdery blue-grey colouration, active nature, and incredible value as a top-tier cleanup crew. These small to medium-sized isopods grow up to 1.5cm, with a soft, velvety, frosted appearance that gives them their name — colour ranges from pale silver-blue to deep steel blue, looking most vibrant just before moulting. Highly adaptable, fast-breeding, and active both day and night, they are perfect for beginners and experts alike, essential for bioactive terrariums, vivariums, reptile enclosures, and isopod cultures. They efficiently break down waste, leaf litter, shed, and decaying matter, keeping substrates healthy and ecosystems balanced — widely regarded as the best all-round isopod for sale in the UK!

📖 Care Guide
- Temperature: 18°C–29°C, very tolerant of small fluctuations
- Humidity: 50%–70% — provide a moist and dry gradient; keep one corner damp with moss or soil
- Substrate: Coco fibre, organic soil, or ABG mix, 2–5cm deep, mixed with leaf litter and rotting wood
- Food: Main diet = oak/beech leaf litter + decaying wood; supplement with veg (carrot, sweet potato), fish flakes, dried shrimp, and calcium (cuttlebone/eggshells)
- Enclosure: Well-ventilated tub or tank with plenty of hides like cork bark or moss; they breed extremely fast and form large colonies quickly
- Easy to keep, low maintenance, safe with most reptiles, amphibians, and invertebrates — ideal starter species!
