PORCELLIO SCABER "MORPH MIX"

Porcellio scaber "Morph Mix" is a varied and colorful collection that combines several different color strains into a single enclosure. Instead of a single solid look, this culture brings together a mix of orange, pied dalmatian, cow-patterned, white, translucent ghost, and classic wild-type grey woodlice. They feature the typical rough, bumpy carapace texture that gives the common rough woodlouse its name. They are flat-bodied, medium-sized, and cannot roll into a ball, relying instead on running or playing dead when they feel threatened.

WHO IS THIS SPECIES FOR?

This mix is great for total beginners who want a tough, zero-stress pet, or for keepers who want a visually interesting display where every individual looks a bit different. They are highly active on the surface, so you will see them out moving around bark and leaves rather than staying buried in the dirt. They work perfectly as a hardy cleanup crew for temperate or semi-arid bioactive reptile setups, easily breaking down waste while adding a lot of color variety to the floor.

SPECIES OVERVIEW

SCIENTIFIC NAME: Porcellio scaber "Morph Mix"
ORIGIN: Native to Europe but now found worldwide, with these specific color strains developed in captivity.
DIFFICULTY: Very Easy / Beginner

CARE & ENVIRONMENT PARAMETERS:

TEMPERATURE RANGE: 18-26°C. They do perfectly at standard room temperatures and handle seasonal indoor temperature changes with ease.
HUMIDITY & MOISTURE: 50-60% humidity. They handle dry spells well but need a clear moisture gradient. Keep one-third of the enclosure damp with a patch of wet sphagnum moss, leaving the rest of the floor dry. They need good ventilation and will struggle in stagnant, swampy tropical environments.
DIETARY NEEDS: Their main food source is organic leaf litter and rotting hardwood. They have a high appetite for protein, so you should supplement them twice a week with fish flakes, dried shrimp, or minnows. Keep a permanent calcium source like cuttlefish bone in the setup to help them molt safely.

BEHAVIOUR & BREEDING HABITS

ACTIVITY LEVELS: High. They are bold and regularly gather under bark or explore the open areas of the habitat during the day and night.
REPRODUCTION RATE: Prolific. They breed very quickly and reliably, producing broods of 12-20 young at a time, meaning you will see a mix of new patterns appearing as the colony grows.

WHAT WILL YOU RECEIVE?

SIZES: You will get a healthy mix of sizes from juveniles to young adults, giving the colony a stable start. The package will include a random mix of the different colors available. Newborn babies are not intentionally counted or shipped, though some may be born during transit.
PACKAGING: The isopods travel in ventilated tubs filled with damp sphagnum moss to maintain humidity. These are packed inside a sturdy shipping box padded with paper or cardboard to protect them from temperature drops and movement.
