They have this amazing pattern, white and grey splodges that look just like a Friesian cow, hence the name! But it’s not just about how they look, it’s about how easy they are to keep. They are honestly bulletproof. You don’t need to stress too much about humidity levels because they are happy in most conditions. They are also way more active than some of the slower species, so you actually see them wandering around the tank which is cool.

The best thing about them though is how fast they breed. Once they settle in, they go for it! You start with a small culture and before you know it you have hundreds. This makes them perfect if you are looking to stock a large vivarium or if you just want a colony that looks after itself.

They are also brilliant as a cleanup crew. They munch through waste and leaf litter really quickly and help keep the soil turned over. They work great in desert type setups as well as tropical ones, as long as there is a damp corner for them to retreat to.
